Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, 1st degree black belt
ITF Tae Kwon-Do, 3rd degree black belt
Professor Anthony “Tony” Kalina is the Chief Jiu Jitsu Instructor of Fonseca Martial Arts. Professor Tony’s life-long passion has been martial arts, with over 30 years of experience, since beginning training and competing in Tae Kwon-Do at age seven. Along with achieving his third-degree black belt in ITF style Tae Kwon-Do, Tony has experience teaching adults and children since age sixteen. Similarly, at sixteen, Professor Tony began testing himself and supplementing his Tae Kwon-Do training by amassing an extensive striking background, with ten years of training and competing experience in boxing, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Sanshou (Chinese Kickboxing). While Professor Tony’s early Jiu Jitsu instruction began in his teenage years, for the past 14 years, Tony has focused on Jiu Jitsu and developing a “transferable game,” which applies to self-defense, sport (gi and no gi), and mixed martial arts. Along with being a Team Redzovic instructor/coach since purple belt, Tony has been an active competitor medaling in all major promotions at each rank, until receiving his black belt on April 10, 2021. Tony’s most recent competition was in August of 2023 where he took silver in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Chicago Open, at his age and weight class. In addition to Professor Tony’s Jiu Jitsu acumen, he is a student of the grappling arts that also continues to study and train wrestling and judo (recently promoted to orange belt), to maximize his personal potential and bring a comprehensive grappling program to Fonseca Martial Arts.
